20 Delicious Snacks for even your pickiest eaters!
"Mommy I'm hungry, can I have a snack?" Here's my list of great afternoon (or mid-morning) snacks that are simple, quick, and yes yummy. Please make sure to check first to see if they are age-appropriate. AND yes most can be modified to Gluten-Free. Substitute crackers and graham crackers for GF crackers, flour tortillas for corn tortillas, and butter for coconut oil from Trader Joe's (or costco if you have a membership). Feel free to sit with your kiddos at the table and read a Bible story to them about food, too. Like when Jesus fed 5,000 with fish and bread :)
Little Dippers: Cut an apple into wedges. Stick a toothpick in each piece, dip in nut butter, and roll in crushed peanuts or sliced almonds.
Top This: Spread a dollop of blueberry yogurt on a graham cracker and top with banana slices, dried cranberries, and mini-chocolate chips.
Twist it Up: Mix 1/2 cup melted butter with 1/2 cup sugar and 2tsp. cinnamon. Toss to coat one 16oz. bag of mini-pretzels and an 8-oz. bag of nuts. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes.*make ahead and divide into snack bags.
Winter Special: Top whole-grain crackers with thin apple slices and grated cheddar cheese. Broil until cheese melts.
Fruity Tooty: Cut a tortilla into 6 pieces. Brush with cinnamon and sugar. Bake 350F for 8 to 10 minutes, or until crispy.
Hey, Chicky, Chicky: Pour one 160z. can drained chickpeas in a single layer on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with olive oil, garlic powder, and salt. Bake at 400F for 30 minutes, or until crispy.
Say Cheese: Toss together Chex cereal, mini-pretzels, cheese crackers, and parmesan cheese.
Sweet Bagel Chips: Slice cinnamon-raisin bagels into thin rounds. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Bake at 325F for 10 minutes.
Mini-cheese Melts: Sandwich slices of cheddar cheese between whole-grain crackers. Broil until cheese melts.
Berries and Cream: Dip whole strawberries in yogurt. Freeze until firm. Slice in half.
Gone Fishing: Provide carrot sticks, a bowl of veggie dip, and a plate of rainbow goldfish. Let the kids dip the carrot (fishing pole) into the cheese (bait) and then "catch" the fish.
Magic Wands: Spread peanut butter on top of pretzel rods. Roll in chopped nuts or dried fruit.
Orange Crush: Blend orange juice with a scoop of vanilla frozen yogurt.
Pizza Bread: Top a small loaf of Italian bread with tomato sauce, mozzarella, and sliced turkey pepperoni. Broil until bubbly.
Trail-Mix Kettlecorn: Toss popcorn with melted butter, honey, and pecans. Spread on a baking sheet and bake at 350F for 15 minutes. Add M&Ms after cooking.*best for kiddos over 4
Nuts and Bolts: Spread peanut butter on toasted whole-wheat waffle. Top with sliced banana and a drizzle of honey.
